Document Size & Token Estimator
Check whether a contract, transcript or bundle will fit in an AI tool’s context window before you upload it, so nothing is silently cut off.

Share of an illustrative context window
Leave room for your prompt and the answer. If you are near the limit, split the document or ask for section-by-section analysis.
Educational tool, not legal advice. Outputs are starting points and must be reviewed by a qualified professional before use. Rules vary by jurisdiction and change often.
What is a token?
AI models read text in small units called tokens. In English, one token is roughly three-quarters of a word on average, so 1,000 words is about 1,300 tokens. Exact counts vary by model and by text (legal citations and numbers often use more tokens).
What is a context window?
The maximum amount of text a model can consider at once, including your prompt, any documents and its answer. If a document exceeds it, the tool may truncate or summarise parts without telling you clearly.
Are the context window sizes exact?
No. They are illustrative sizes. Limits differ by model, plan and product and change frequently. Check your provider’s current documentation.
